Great news for the British automotive industry today as BMW have announced plans to inject half a billion pounds into UK production.
BMW Group has 7 main plants and offices across the UK:
- BMW Group Plant Swindon
- Vehicle Distribution Centre, Thorne
- BMW Plant Hams Hall, Coleshill
- BMW Group Plant Oxford
- BMW (UK) Ltd., Bracknell
- Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd, Goodwood
- BMW Financial Services, Hook
BMW employs around 8000 people in the UK, most of them are in the 3 main plants of Oxford, Hams Hall and the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars plant in Goodwood.
The BMW plant in Oxford is where the Mini is manufactured, and this is the only place in the world where the mini is made. 3,700 workers are employed at this plant. They make 800 cars a day.
In Hams Hill they produce BMW engines for BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 series, Z4 Roadster and X3 model and also supply Mini parts to the Oxford Plant. Around 1000 people are employed here.
Rolls-Royce Motor cars, the final home of the symbolic Roller, employs around 1000 people.
BMW share price is up a little today on this news, currently trading at EUR61.30 (up 0.49%).
