Royal Dutch Shell Plc. is the official name of Shell. It is a global oil and gas company. It is the largest oil company in the world. Global oil production is estimated at 3.1 million barrels per day.

Royal Dutch Shell Plc. carries out all areas of oil and gas production from initial exploration through to extraction, refining, distribution, marketing, trading and shipping. It is involved in power generation and is a growing force in renewable energy such as biofuels, hydrogen, solar and wind power.

Royal Dutch Shell resulted from the merger of Koninklijke (Royal Dutch Petroleum Company) and the Shell Group in 2005. Royal Dutch Shell has since made some major new investments such as a partnership with Cosan (Brazilian ethanol and energy) in 2010 and East Resources.

    Today Royal Dutch Shell shipped its first cargo of liquified gas (gasoil) from a natural gas plant in Qatar which is a part of its Pearl Gas-To-Liquids project.

    Royal Dutch Shell in the news today as they have started drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico again while Big Green environmental activists are filing a case through the federal courts in the USA to get them to stop.

    This case could set a precedent for future cases. After the Deepwater Horizon disaster it is expected that there will be more cases brought to the courts to stop or limit oil exploration and extraction in the Gulf of Mexico.

    Royal Dutch Shell have hit out at Big Green saying that their lawsuits are an obstacle to jobs and economic growth.

    A pipeline rupture from one of RDS’ Nigerian natural-gas plants has forced Royal Dutch Shell to cease production at Utorogu. This has caused an immediate national reduction in output of 32%. Nigeria is suffering increased power shortages as a result of this current closure.

    More on the possible Rosneft deal. Shell CEO Peter Voser suggested that there were many options on the table. Rosneft and BP were in talks recently regarding a $16 billion joint venture, but this fell through due to some specific issues regarding BP shareholder agreements.

    Shell have confirmed that they are not interested in a stock / asset swap as a part of the deal though.

    Royal Dutch Shell has some bad press today after reports that it has been involved in Syria’s regime, in connection with an oil tanker that was chartered to export 600,000 barrels of Syria’s oil.

    Vladimir Putin has said that there is a possibility of a deal between Royal Dutch Shell and Russia’s Rosneft oil company to work in partnership to extract offshore oil in the Arctic.

    German regulators have decided the Royal Dutch Shell, along with other major oil companies, cannot build any new petrol stations. German Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer is demanding that laws change to protect the customer from over-priced fuel being delivered by monopolies.
